Search Engines and Subject Directories

A search engine where you can ask questions in plain English (natural language).


Microsoft's "decision engine" suggests topics related to your search. It also retrieves images and video.


This medium-sized search engine gives you many options to refine your search. It also has an image search option.


Gigablast has many advanced search options plus it gives other suggested topics (called Giga Bits) at the top of your search resulsts page.


This search engine ranks results based on the number of links to a page. The "I'm feeling lucky" button takes you directly to the highest ranked page for your search. Google image search is great for finding pictures.


ipl2 is the result of a merger of the Internet Public Library and the Librarian's Internet Index. It is still searchable, but is not longer being maintained.
